Caustic soda filtration

The bottles are cleaned in the washing machine using caustic soda, with the ultra-fine particles removed by the BOLLFILTER, in order to improve the quality of cleaning and protect the nozzles on the spray bars from becoming blocked.
The objective is to remove contaminants from the caustic soda solution as early as possible, in order to ensure that the lowest possible levels of residue are transported to the post treatment zones. Paper fibres, glue, ink and other contaminants are the cause of significant problems in the caustic solution. This is exactly where the BOLLFILTER automatic Type 6.64 is used in the partial flow filtration system to continuously filter the caustic solution.

Improvements in the washing process of the bottle washing machine

Following improvements have been achieved:

  • A reduction in settleable solids in the main caustic solution by 47% and by 65% in the post-caustic tank.
  • An increase in the useful life of the caustic solution from 6 weeks to 6 months.
  • A 90% reduction in the bottle reject rate.
  • A considerably better overall condition of the machine.
  • A reduction in wastewater costs.
  • A reduction in deposits on the basket carriers.
  • No more blockages in the spray bars.
  • Significantly reduced cleaning requirements for operators during production (cleaning of the plug-in strainers, malfunctions etc.)
  • No deposits in the flowless zones of the machine or in the heat exchangers.
  • Improved hygiene by preventing dirt particles from depositing on the internal walls lf the cleaning machine.
